i travel a little for work each week, to the same client; i tend to stay in the same hotel or two. all the rooms are the same but slightly different, so every week i find myself in a new but eerily similar home to the one i had last week. And as most business travelers do, I have my own methods of makign a hotel room a "home."

- turn the lever on the door -- last thing you ever want is someone (housekeeping, another guest given the same room, a serial killer) being able to enter the room if they got a key
- if 2 double beds (and just 1 me): suitcase goes on one bed, the one closer to the bathroom.
- hurl laptop and papers to attend to onto the desk, or if i wanna be working on a couch or bed, onto the bed.
- kick shoes off
- find out what the internet situation is; connect
- change into PJ's & flipflops
- bring toiletries into bathroom
- tie up hair and wash face
- find comedy central on TV; if no comedy central, then TBS, or nothing - listen to music instead.

I know, isn't it fascinating?
I didn't realize I had this routine until I went on a trip with 3 other people, and started doing my thing - luggage up, shoes off, toiletries out, internet on...

so apparently home for me = comfortable clothes+internet (wireless? *angels sing* )
=) sounds good.

What helps you change a place into a home?

unpacking books, and then shelving them wildly, ostensibly without any organization or thought behind it.

and sitting down and eating oranges together, sticky juice running down our arms.

and add in some ice cream, too. home is where there's always some kind of ice cream in the freezer.
