new design
April 2nd, 2006 byPreviously, I posted my concern that the new design might be too dark. However, after looking at it from several different monitors and browsers (and the two comments) -it seems okay. Apparently, it was.
I also discovered recently that CSS hates me. The CSS file (the file which defines colours and layout) for this website is from a template. I am fairly certain that if CSS were a logical markup language I would understand it at some level. I don’t understand it.
Working with CSS is like the scientific process for determining gene function:
For example, when scientists try to figure out the particular function of a gene in an organism, they often try to either knock it out (delete it) or mutate it. Likewise, when working with CSS, I often have to either mutate some line of code and observe if the result is something expected or in more extreme cases I remove it to see just *what* exactly the purpose of said attribute was.

It’s nice and simple… Maybe you could use a different dark color (dark blue maybe)

CSS is a little tricky but the rewards are huge. But so far, yes. CSS hates you.

it is nice, not too dark just takes a little getting used to. the banner is hot, though.
but why, WHY, is there no way to get to archives? is there some secret link that i cant see?

Maybe I deleted some essential font a while back when I was spring cleaning the computer – but the text on the site looks broken and is really hard to read.
Other than that, I like the layout.

fathima: The font is Lucida. It may be missing =/ I’ve viewed the site on Windows, MacOS and Linux. It seems to display the text okay… Send screen shot of text?

hey
i like the new layout… but the contrasting colours are killing my eyes, than and it’s 3:48am.
Maybe if you had it a smoother colour like the comments section? This sort of greyish tone?
The header image is soo rocking though.
It looks awesome in the black =)
The search thing… goes sort of invis, but only when you by chance roll over it that it’s clear.
It’s sort of cool actually.

Right, the search bar should appear more clearly on mouse over in Firefox.
The main text actually started off with a grey tone but I made it white in an effort to make the page appear “brighter”. Probably not the best move… story of my life.
