Guest Blog

October 16th, 2003 by

Hello all, Waleed is busy working on an assignment for my class…yes, I am his professor and he has been neglecting his work…therefore, I offered to blog while he catches up on the assignment…its a big one too!

So please direct any and all blogish comments to me! I will try to carry on in Waleed’s style, tone and interests but I think they are all wrong…so we shall see. At least Waleed will be entertained by the exchange of blogs…however, I am not sure when he will have time to read them.

Dr. Karl

    Hey there Dr. Karl,

I think you work Waleed too hard. I’m sure the other people who read this blog would agree that the man needs to blog more. We all need a substantial dose of Waleedness, you know? You said it yourself… he might not even have time to read the comments his writing gets. That’s sad, donchu think?

Oh well. *shrug* Serves him right for neglecting his work, eh?

Anyway, I noticed that you wrote exchange of blogs. Does that mean you also have a blog? If so, can I see it?

  2. yasmine Says:

So, Dr. Karl, how would you describe YOUR style, tone, and interests?

And, you know, this post is making me feel awfully suspicious of my own professors. I wonder if they sit back in their offices, chuckle evilly, and blog away while their students meanwhile gulp down Red Bull and race to complete term papers and study for exams. Hmm..

  3. chai Says:

just making my rounds. thought i would drop in. ohhh. so that’s why he’s MIA. dr. karl, you might want to have a little mercy on him and actually let him see daylight. but then you could also join the faculty in a good laugh at his expense. i can see why this could be a pretty tough choice. just remember, kindness usually repays 10 fold.

    p.s. waleed, you owe me

  4. Waleed Says:

You guys do realize that Dr Karl is my professor here at college. And he’s right.

As if being up for 36 hours in a row to finish my Authorware project wasn’t sufficient. No indeedy no.

  5. chai Says:

how more hours do you have to go?

  6. Waleed Says:

For this project? oh boy, 4 more weeks.
It’s the toughest one this department offers.

  7. chai Says:

we’re rooting for you. yasmine even made up a cheer. go on, yasmine, remember what you practiced?

  8. Waleed Says:

    This, I must. =)

  9. chai Says:

ok. technical difficulties. the pink bunny suit is nowhere to be found so i’m sorry. this has been postponed to a later date.

  10. Faiza Says:

Go away, Waleed! We want Dr. Karl. Go do your work or something.

  11. Karl Says:

I see you all agree that Waleed needs more work. As the old saying goes “If you want to get something done…give it to a busy person.” I am instilling Mr. Waleed with a sense of urgency about projects…by his own admission he procrastinates a bit….as you know from following his blog.

My style, tone and such, I think will be evident in the comming weeks…as for my own blog? This is a trial…although, Waleed has been encouraging me to “get a blog” since he arrived here.

On more item…do you like the new Halloween orange? I am curious.

  12. yasmine Says:

I even made up a cheer?
    Whaa…?
Thanks a lot, Chai. Now I’m going to be chillin in my psych class in 40 minutes, thinking up cheers. Personally, I think you’d be way better at this, though.

So Waleed’s disappearing for 4 weeks? Hmm.
    Well, blog on, Dr. Karl!

As for the orange, I like it. (I’m assuming you’re referring to the orange in this blog, although I could be wrong. In either case, orange vibes are good. As long as you don’t require sunglasses for the glare.) But, you know, even after Waleed’s explanation and all, I still keep thinking that graphic up there (behind the HPN logo) is a turban.

  13. karl Says:

Yes, sorry…the orange on the web site. The release of the new site at around Halloween with the orange motif stuck me….It struck me as oddly seasonal for a non-seasonal person.

Does Waleed not begin to reflect those he wanders into as he wanders…..

  14. akds Says:

“On more item…do you like the new Halloween orange? I am curious.”

Well between you and me not really =) Hah, I think the site would have been better with a flat color in the background not a gradient. The blue & brown table headers don’t really go and the blue fonts used for the HalfPastNomad titles don’t have consistancy. Also I wasnt a fan of the blue color in the titles either. It feels as if all of these problems get amplifed by the orange.

I was trying to get waleed to use those suggestions during development (which it seems, he should have spent doing his school work ;) but I am only one opinion and I don’t really count because I am suffering from blog with drawl.

now that I have let the cat go (is that the saying?) It would be nice to hear what other people think…

  15. Faiza Says:

I think the orange is better than those other backgrounds Waleed was showing me once.

Yazzie, that graphic up there isn’t a turban? :/

  16. Faiza Says:

The title of the introduction post (of the new design- October 11) says “Fall cometh.”
So maybe he [the nomad] is a seasonal person, after all.

  17. Hanieh Says:

Keep working Waleed really hard- make sure he earns his A. Nothing good in life comes easy! :)

  18. Owl Says:

    Hrm….. curiouser and curiouser.

  19. yasmine Says:

    I know, Owl, ain’t it?

  20. Owl Says:

I’m waiting for Proferssor Karl to spill the beans on Waleed.

  21. Waleed Says:

Spill the beans on me? He couldn’t! He wouldn’t! There are too many cans on his cupboard, filled with beans upon beans of many a student.

I told the good prof to keep tabs on questions for him; so he’ll be here soon enough indeedy-o.

As for me and my work, I’m doing it. Endlessly, tirelessly working on a pile that seems to know no bottom. Perhaps it would if i pushed it over. Just pushed it over.

I want to push you around
Well I will well I will
I want to push you down
Well I will well I will.

  22. chai Says:

note usage of the good professor stead of just professor. you, you’re good.

  23. yasmine Says:

    haha great angry lyrics, waleed.
and yeah, you’re real slick. We still want dr. karl back though, to give us added insights into all this “waleedness,” as faiza calls it.

good luck with all the work, insha’Allah.

  24. Waleed Says:

    Not so fast Yasmine.
    Where’s ma cheer?
    Where’s it huh?

  25. chai Says:

    yeah yasmine *stare*

  26. yasmine Says:

I’m innocent, I swear. I think you should ask Chai. SHE’S the queen of repartee-ing on demand. Plus, she’s the small-time pilferer, too, remember? She probably has all these other skills I don’t know about either. hmph. And where’s that pink bunny suit you were talking about, woman?

See? See? I don’t know nothin.

  27. chai Says:

including grammar! you people and your demands! grrr

  28. Dr. Karl Says:

Waleed….who is this Waleed, a graduate student in instructional technology…a blogger…a man who waits until the last moment for school work…why…he reads, thinks and wanders through materials…while that is good…he needs to consider deadlines (we all have this problem to a degree)…the trick is to overcome the problem…focus our energy and direct our force toward outcomes we desire…life is about learning to focus our energy…(or it should be)…people who accomplish great things are focused
