all sorts of cake
September 5th, 2003 byWell, this is new to me. Because even in the middle of furious paper writing, it’s hard to not overhear lyrics which say the following:
As soon as you’re born you start dyin’
So you might as well have a good time
CHORUS
Sheep go to heaven
Goats go to hell
Sheep go to heaven
Goats…go to hell
-Cake’s, ‘Sheep go to heaven’

Hilarious. But I wonder at the subtly of the message.

…what subtlety?

I heard that song on the radio, and it’s on the rotation list for my portable MP3 player.. One of my favorite.. Other favorites by Cake: “Short skirt, long jacket” (yes… top 40 I know), and “Friend is a four letter word”.

Cake’s rendition of ‘Survive’ is quite mesmerizing actually. And I had no idea that they’re the ones who sang short skirt, long jacket. I’ve heard that on and off, but was never able to put my finger to it.
Any other recommended works by them B?

Do you really wanna hear me attempt to analyse? It aint gonna be pretty.
Subtle overtones, sheep are people who don’t think for themself, follow the herd. They go to heaven. Goats, those who think for themselves, also an allusion is to the Western form of the hooved Satan, they go to hell.
(Spidey sense, also known as the BS-detector, is going off. It’s a code red)
As me darling kid bro says, “Man I HATE symbolism! Keep your poetry away!”

Hmm…didn’t think of it like that. Interesting symbolism. The question is if the artist meant it as such.

Naw the question is, does it even matter?

ah, good point.
