I’m no superman
August 21st, 2003 byGrowing up, we all go through such conversations. If we had the choice to be a superhero or posses superpowers, what would we choose. Even as adults, and with so many movies in the limelight nowadays, we still continue to pick apart at this fantasy question. I’ve had the same answer for ages now.
I look at the categories of superhero’s that exist out there. Only three main ones struck with me: Batman, Superman and Spiderman.
Now watch my mathematical mind follow the process of elimination.
Superman is from another planet and grew up on a farm. Having none of these two characterestics (especially the farm skills), I have to cross him out of my list.
Batman is a filthy rich man with a giant cave in his basement. I have but a few hundred in my account at the moment and I don’t forsee a future with billions rolling around. I also happen to live in a basement, which by the way does not have any cool gadgets, unless a blueberry iMac counts. Batman has to be excluded from my list too.
That leaves Spiderman last. I am forced to conclude that there is a higher chance me being bitten by a radioactive spider on a school trip then being insanely rich or an alien from another planet.
Now, I eagerly board any bus I can find.

I’m sorry, but no, a Mac in any form definitely doesn’t count as cool.
And I wanna be Superman, but man, those farm skills (err, lack thereof) really do get in the way…

How about your chances of finding a green ring with magic powers? Green lantern is cool too! (Especially, the new green lantern!)
Worst case scenario, one of your friends makes a magic potion giving you incredible strength and you can be Asterix and Obelix..
Tin Tin?
One of the wondertwins, or maybe Gleek?

You can be anybody on the internet…

Oh wao Burhan. You actually know of classics such as TinTin and Asterix? I mention those around and ppl give me their half open mouth confused huh look.
Those two comics were the best. I just read a TinTin a few weeks back.
According to sources, Herge (the writer of TinTin) died and his unpublished works revealed a TinTin story in progress. So his heirs are trying to see if they can have it put together as the final tribute to Herge and TinTin.
Cool green rings yes but- The only ring I want to wear is the one for my wife.
As for being anybody on the web, a few years back a blog was started out, a fictional blog of a fictionally famous person. People loved it, more then the real life blog of the author. Yes, you can be anybody you want on the web Faiza.
I just have enough trouble being me as it is. =)

I’m a Mac person but I’m also a “hybrid” person which I’m gathering most individuals are not. So to state that “a Mac in any form definitely doesn’t count as cool.” tells me something about you. = (
As far as the superhero or superpowers, well I’d have to agree with Waleed. Spiderman is the one for me. I haven’t found that bus yet but I haven’t been looking either!
P.S. written on a Mac

lol
I’ve completed far, far too many years of journalism and yearbook staff using Macs (and grudgingly still use Macs whenever the PC computer labs are full), but nothing could enamor me of them. Sorry. I know Macs supposedly rock in terms of graphics and design and all, but when it comes to being a “hybrid” person…I’m just a lost cause, yo.
And Tin Tin is the coolest dude around.

Tintin is great. I remember reading one of his adventures during one of my many trips to Pakistan. It made me feel a little less odd, reading about another kid hopping countries.

everybody knows about TinTin and Asterix.
You people are forgetting something, superman was superman before the farm skills.
So once you become superman/woman, the farm skills are a trivial matter.

Actually… Superman wasn’t superman until he went up north after his pa’ died, and threw that crystal into the ground which built the “fortress of solitude” (which for us who are parents today, may as well be a bathroom fully stocked with magazines)…
This means that superman was superman after the farm skills, and not before. Mind you.. if you were superman, you wouldn’t need farm skills.. Simply pillage and plunder other farms, or head up your own cartel..
Anyone remember Groo the warrior?

“Oh wao Burhan. You actually know of classics such as TinTin and Asterix? I mention those around and ppl give me their half open mouth confused huh look.”
Classics? Seriously? Even I know of TinTin and Asterix, and I’m much younger than most of you.
Rogue was cool, but Storm was the greatest!
Umm… any Captain Planet fans here?

Well, I’m really glad we put the entire superman:farm issue at rest. Finally, peace is mine to be had. =)
I remember when I was but a wee lad my parents got me these really cool sneakers. A child, an imagination unparalleled in my world, I vividly remembering going for my first run in those shoes. It was the fastest I had ever run in my life.
I had superpowers back then. I just wish I knew which carton I put them amidst all the moving of life.

spider man is the handsomest by the way. if thats a word. and even if its not, hes still good looking. like mashaAllah a million times over

Sneakers were magical back then, no doubt. With the right sort of gear, you could do anything.
You’ve misplaced your superpowers? Bogus. Whatta waste.
